Dear players,
Let me start off this page by saying that I enjoyed the ride. For a little over 3 years, the time I spent with people that I got to know and love was
the best expierience of my life, and the people that stuck around will be friends for the rest of my life, I promise you that.
It is with great sadness that I write this, as I love developing and writing random blops of code, but a time must come when everything ends, our lives and the world
will end some day, and this is not something anyone looks forward to.
I've been thinking a lot, about my life and the direction I want it to take. Ever since my promotion into a worthy position at work, I've began pondering what lies
ahead for me on this road that I'm supposed to call life. I've never been to college, I graduated high school, and that's as far as things went for me. It's funny
how far things can go, I know that I've tried to keep MystRO/Myst-Online alive for as long as humanly possible, but I just can't take it anymore, and for that, I
apologize. I am weak, just flesh, blood and weakness. I honestly never intended on sticking with this server that long, it was truely something I loved and admired
from day to day, to hear the people's overwhelming joy at something that I pretty much created from the ground up, something that was truely mine. I had a ton
of help along the way, both from staff and those that were not, and like I said, they will remain friends forever.
The truth is, I can't keep draining energy like this into something that no one (or practically no one) enjoys/plays. Spending money to host something that practically
no one uses. We've had a lot of speed bumps along the way, from downtimes, to drama, to wipes, but one thing remained the same, my ever going drive to keep the server
alive, and the few people that supported me 100% for it. I have no more drive for RO. I hardly play, I hardly develop, for that matter. Hell, I hardly love eAthena as
much as I did a couple of years ago. Personally, I think I've experienced all I can experience with RO, it's just another boring game for me now. With that, I might just
quit RO altogether, I might not. I might go develop or staff some other RO server, I might not. I do know that I need to take my life into a different direction,
stop sweating the small stuff, and move on with my life.
So what happens from here, you might ask? I move on. This page will remain active for the rest of the month, as well as the server. As soon as the month is over,
the servers will bite the dust for non-payment. I will retain the final backup in case anyone wants to continue on the legacy that was once this server,
so I'd please ask that the GM's not do anything to harm the redundancy of the databases or SVN. I will retain the last working copy of the SVN just in case anyone
wants to take it into their own hands, but I will not.
I started up a project in which I was going to create a 'Pokemon MMO', that is still very much alive, and will remain alive until I (hopefully) finish it.
A brief history rundown of us:
On Aug 28th, 2005, a server was born, a server by the name of ApocolypseRO, run by a fellow who's alias was 'Apoc'. While the server grew more and more unstable
being hosted from his home internet connection, he called me up on AIM and passed the full server files off to me, this took place sometime in early Nov '05.
In January '05, we then renamed ourselves to 'EtherealRO', realizing that was taken, we then picked up the name 'MystRO', on Jan 13th, 2006. Thus, a server was born,
Throughout our life, we achieved an all time high of players on March 5th, 2006, when we hit 59 players in game. After a while, it deteriorated, and by April of 2008,
there was practically no one online, so Jman decided to close the server, he had real life problems to worry about, as well as financial hardships. On Nov 30th,
MystRO was reopened as 'Myst-Online' and here we are now.
If anyone would like to hit me up for a chat, my MSN is 'jmanfffreak@mchsi.com', and my Facebook page is
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=1233410832&ref=profile there.
If anyone would like to contact me to try and host Myst Online, you can email me at the address for my MSN and I can pass off the files to you.
If you want, I know Davey was going to open up a server at some point, I know he's got the site, forums and such to do it, and the knolegde as well, other than that,
I will attempt to keep the server up until the end of the month, but it's likely that if it does go down, it's gone forever.
RIP MystRO/Myst-Online, Jan 13th, 2006 ~ May 7th, 2009
Your admin and friend forever,
